Tuskegee Advances to SIAC Championship Game with Semifinal Victory Over Clark Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Tuskegee Golden Tigers women's basketball team secured a spot in the SIAC Championship game after defeating Clark Atlanta 60-48 in the semifinal round at Forbes Arena. 

With this victory, Tuskegee improves to 20-9 overall and extends its winning streak to five games. The Golden Tigers will face Miles in the championship game on Saturday at 2:00 PM ET.

Tuskegee came out strong in the opening quarter, quickly establishing control of the game. Hilani Cantone got the scoring started with a driving layup on the first possession, and Jasmine Manuel followed with a putback layup to give the Golden Tigers an early 4-2 lead.

La'Dajah Huguley extended the lead with a three-pointer off an assist from SyAnn Holmes, putting Tuskegee ahead 7-2 just two minutes into the contest.

Clark Atlanta responded with a couple of baskets in the paint, but Tuskegee continued to control the tempo. Holmes knocked down a mid-range jumper, and Brittney Bolin converted on a second-chance opportunity to push the lead to 13-4.

The Golden Tigers maintained their defensive pressure, forcing multiple turnovers that led to transition opportunities. Cantone closed the quarter with a contested jumper, giving Tuskegee a 17-13 lead after the first 10 minutes.

The second quarter was a defensive struggle for both teams. The Golden Tigers went cold from the field, shooting just 1-of-12 in the period. Despite their offensive struggles, they kept Clark Atlanta from capitalizing, holding the Panthers to just eight points in the quarter.

Cantone provided the lone field goal for Tuskegee in the period, hitting a three-pointer with just over two minutes left in the half to put Tuskegee back in front 20-17. Clark Atlanta made a late push, converting on a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to just one at 22-21 heading into halftime.

Coming out of the break, Tuskegee regained its offensive rhythm. Holmes opened the third quarter with a jumper off a pass from Cantone, followed by a fast-break layup from Huguley to stretch the lead to five. Clark Atlanta managed to keep the game close, but the Golden Tigers found their groove offensively.

With six minutes left in the third, Cantone nailed a three-pointer from the right wing to extend the lead to 33-27. Holmes continued to attack the basket, drawing fouls and getting to the free-throw line.

Tuskegee closed the quarter on a 7-2 run, capped by a layup from Bolin off an assist from Alexandria Johnson. The Golden Tigers outscored Clark Atlanta 20-16 in the third quarter, giving them a 42-37 advantage heading into the final period.

Tuskegee dominated the fourth quarter, controlling the glass and tightening up defensively. Bolin secured a defensive rebound and pushed the ball up the floor to Cantone, who finished through contact and converted the three-point play to push the lead to 10. The Golden Tigers held Clark Atlanta to just 31.3 percent shooting in the final quarter while forcing multiple turnovers.

Cantone continued to lead the offense, hitting another jumper to give Tuskegee its biggest lead of the game at 58-46 with just under a minute to play. The Golden Tigers iced the game at the free-throw line, securing a 60-48 victory and a trip to the SIAC Championship game.

Cantone led the way with 19 points, five rebounds, and one assist while shooting 5-of-13 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.

Holmes added 12 points, six rebounds, and three steals, providing a strong two-way performance. Huguley chipped in eight points, six rebounds, and two steals, while Bolin controlled the boards with eight rebounds to go along with seven points and two assists.

Tuskegee outrebounded Clark Atlanta 46-43, including a 23-20 edge in offensive boards. The Golden Tigers scored 28 points in the paint and scored 15 second-chance points.

The defense played a key role in the win, forcing 18 turnovers and holding Clark Atlanta to just 26.9 percent shooting from the field.
