Tuskegee Advances to SIAC Semifinals with Thrilling Victory Over Albany State

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Tuskegee Golden Tigers secured their spot in the SIAC Basketball Championship semifinals with a hard-fought 70-68 victory over Albany State in the quarterfinal round on Thursday night at Forbes Arena.
 
With the win, Tuskegee improves to 15-13 on the season and extends its winning streak to four games, continuing its strong push in postseason play.
 
Tuskegee came out 91ÖÆÆ·³§ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉúÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø, setting the tone early with a strong offensive start. The Golden Tigers opened the game on a 5-0 run behind a jumper and a three-pointer from Kevin Sesberry, who led the team with a dominant performance.
 
Albany State responded with a basket from G'Shan Aldridge, but Tuskegee quickly extended the lead to 8-2 with another three-pointer from Sesberry.
 
The first half was defined by Tuskegee's efficient shooting and defensive pressure, as they outscored Albany State 38-30 heading into the break.
 
Sesberry led all scorers with 19 points in the first half, knocking down eight of his first 12 shots.
 
Kusamae Draper and D'Anthony Pennington provided key contributions, with Draper controlling the paint and Pennington adding solid perimeter defense.
 
Tuskegee dominated the glass, pulling in 10 offensive rebounds in the first half, leading to eight second-chance points. The Golden Tigers also controlled the tempo, forcing seven turnovers while limiting their own mistakes.
 
Albany State came out firing in the second half, cutting into Tuskegee's lead with a quick 6-0 run to make it a two-point game.
 
Cameron Evans caught fire for the Golden Rams, hitting multiple three-pointers to bring Albany State within striking distance.
 
With 11:26 remaining in the game, Albany State took its first lead of the night at 50-48 after a driving layup from Shakur Poteat.
 
Tuskegee responded with resilience, going on a 6-0 run of their own to reclaim the lead at 54-50, highlighted by strong inside play from Draper and Sesberry.
 
The game saw eight lead changes and seven ties, as both teams battled down the stretch in a tense, back-and-forth affair.
 
With under a minute left and Tuskegee clinging to a 68-65 lead, Albany State had an opportunity to tie the game, but a crucial block by Draper on Evans' three-point attempt preserved the Golden Tigers' advantage.
 
The Golden Rams were forced to foul, and RJ Walker calmly sank a pair of free throws to extend the lead to 70-65.
 
Albany State managed a late three-pointer, but Tuskegee's defense held firm in the closing moments to seal the win.
 
Sesberry delivered an outstanding performance, finishing with 28 points, five rebounds, and three steals while shooting 11-of-21 from the field.
 
Draper added 16 points and five rebounds, making crucial plays on both ends of the floor., while Pennington contributed seven points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals, providing strong defensive energy throughout the game.
 
Tuskegee shot 48.3 percent from the field, compared to Albany State's 46.0 percent, and outscored the Golden Rams 40-32 in the paint.
 
The Golden Tigers held a 33-30 rebounding advantage, including 15 offensive rebounds that led to 15 second-chance points.
 
Tuskegee's defense forced 13 turnovers and recorded seven blocks, playing a key role in disrupting Albany State's offensive flow.
