College of Veterinary Medicine cancels 2020 VET STEP amid health concerns

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 91制品厂兔子先生视频官网鈥檚 Veterinary Medicine has canceled its summer Veterinary Science Training Education and Preparation Institute (VET STEP) programs for 2020.

James Perry, director of the college鈥檚 Office of Veterinary Admissions and Recruitment, noted that current health concerns have required the college to make tough but necessary decisions to cancel or postpone several activities in order to protect students, employees and campus visitors.

鈥淲ithout knowing a timeframe for when the coronavirus outbreak will end, the college felt best to cancel the summer program for the health and well-being for all concerned,鈥� he said.

Dr. Ruby L. Perry, the college鈥檚 dean, along with the college鈥檚 leadership team, have had to evaluate a number of academic and outreach programs as a result of the pandemic. Several virtual activities are now being considered as alternatives to on-campus events like VET STEP, and those alternatives will be shared once confirmed.

Traditionally, VET STEP I is for rising ninth and 10th graders; and VET Step II for rising 11th and 12th graders. Both are one-week residential programs designed to introduce minority high school students to the veterinary medicine field. Students attend stimulating academic classes, participate in hands-on activities and laboratory exercises, prepare presentations, engage in discussions, and attend field trips relative to veterinary medicine.
